Quality check

For some people, the idea of leafing through estate agents' property particulars either in paper form or online is a fun and diverting activity, whether they are actively looking to buy a property or not. For many, though, the very idea of reading through so many options fills them with a sense of dread or boredom.

Traditional property search methods

Most property portals such as Rightmove and Zoopla have produced an intuitive website that allows the user to narrow down their choices, such as the number of bedrooms and reception areas, a garden, price, access to offroad parking, and so on, and estate agents' own sites are tailoring what's on offer to help drive people to look at their properties for sale with the expectation that that might transform into a sale.

This is all very helpful, of course, and it provides the user with a tailored list of the types of property that they have specified in an area that they have chosen, but the provision of the information is still rather static and can return dozens of properties to sift through, particularly if your chosen area is quite broad.

Why are you moving? key questions for property buyers

One of the key questions that you need to ask yourself when you are thinking of moving house is "why?" Is it to move nearer to family? Or has a new job meant that you need to shorten the commute time on the roads or rail? Or have you a young family that are on the precipice of starting school and you want to be within the school catchment area? Or do you want the quieter life of a village but with access to the amenities offered by a town not too far away? And so many other drivers that might be behind your decision.

So, wouldn't it be great to have the capability of driving around a location and logging properties for sale that you can look at in more detail when you get to your destination? Or to find out what is on offer in the housing market along your current commute so that you can see if there is anything that allows you to move closer to your workplace?

New property search technology: the Property Drivebuy app

Interestingly, there is a new property search app that does just that.

Called The Property DriveBuy, it has three different functions:

General search function

This is the familiar search capability with the standard parameters feeding into its algorithm so that you are presented with all the properties where the company has homes available for sale. This follows what many of the property portals do, but it also allows you to search by a particular estate agency, or even broker or a firm of property developers.

Property capture feature

Using your phone's current geolocation, the App allows you to search within a set radius. Not only will it come up with properties that are for sale, it will also highlight any that are available for rental, too. You can also get directions to any of the listed properties or look at more that are on offer for a chosen estate agency. This means that you can quickly look at details of a property if it's for sale and you are standing outside it without lengthy searching for information.

Drivebuy™ route function

This is the option that steps the App up above anything else currently available. The function allows you to log a journey from start to finish (perhaps you are driving or are walking), and the App collates all of the properties available for sale or rent along the route of that journey for you to look through at your leisure later on.

It's an interesting development in the methods of identifying your ideal home for whatever the reason you choose to move. And it looks promising for those who hate the idea of sitting droopy-eyed in front of long lists of properties that might fit your needs, or wading through piles of paper that need to be filleted to find the small choice that might be appropriate.
